A pre-Christmas period with no mulled wine? Not with us! This recipe for an extremely fine and elegant rosé mulled wine is sure to make your third Advent Sunday even sweeter!
Ingredients 1 bottle rosé wine (e.g. Bree Pinot Noir) 2-3 tablespoons sugar (brown) 1/2 apple 2 cinnamon sticks 1 vanilla pod 1 star anise (whole)
Directions 1. First pour the wine into a pan and warm on a moderate heat. 2. Cut the half apple into approximately 1-cm-thick slices and cut star shapes out of the apple pieces using a suitable biscuit pastry cutter. 3. Put the apple stars in the pan with the wine. 4. Cut the vanilla pod in half lengthways with a knife. This allows it to give off its aroma more effectively. 5. Add the star anise, cinnamon and vanilla to the mulled wine. 6. Add 2-3 tablespoons of brown rock candy sugar to taste. As the wine is already quite sweet, you should first try a small amount of sugar. 7. Bring the mulled wine to not quite boiling point. You should not bring it completely to the boil, otherwise the alcohol will evaporate and the spices will taste bitter. 8. Then leave to steep for a while. The longer you leave it, the better the aromas can develop.
